It has been a year since we began our family’s journey through pediatric neurosurgery. Grandson Ben is doing great, but plans are being made for another trip to New York City for follow-up testing and whatever else may come.
In the past couple of days, Ben’s mom and dad have done Facebook postings expressing their concern for Ben and asking for continued prayer. Here’s what they posted:
From Ben’s mom:
“Today is very sobering day for me. A year ago today we made the fateful visit to the pediatrician that launched us on Ben’s journey with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) resulting in a Dural AV fistula. 5 hospital stays, many tests, and 2 brain surgeries hundreds of miles away from home over a 2 month timespan was humbling, exhausting, and terrifying all in one. Now we are one year out and planning our return visit to NYC for a one year post op check. I am so grateful that my baby boy has been able to spend this past year as a normal child. Entering pre-K, playing t-ball, and just being a kid! I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’m scared to death over our upcoming visit, but I’m putting it all in God’s hands!”
From Ben’s dad who just booked their June flight to New York:
“There is no part of me that wanted to call Delta today and book our tickets for NYC. I spoke with a lady named Megan (a supervisor in the disability assistance department). Not only did she give us the lowest possible price, waive all associated fees, etc. but she also prayed with me before hanging up and made me promise to let her know how our visit goes.
I can’t describe how scared am I to go back to NYC and go through what’s waiting on us there but knowing there’s so many people out there praying for us makes it a little easier.”
Please keep Ben in your thoughts and in your prayers.
And just for fun, a photo of Ben and some of his cousins having a good time with buckets on their heads!
